      China's manufacturing PMI rallies in February

      Guangzhou (JLC), March 3, 2025--China's manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) rallied and exceeded the 50% mark in February, according to the data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

       

      The manufacturing PMI settled at 50.2% in February, up by 1.1 percentage points from January, the NBS data shows.

      A breakdown of February’s manufacturing PMI showed that the sub-index for production stood at 52.5%, rising by 2.7 percentage points from the prior month, indicating faster production activities after the Spring Festival.

       

      The sub-index for new orders climbed to 51.1% in the month, up by 1.9 percentage points from a month earlier, showing that the market demand recovered, the NBS data shows.

       

      Meanwhile, the sub-index for raw material inventories came in at 47.0%, a decline of 0.7 percentage points from a month earlier. On the contrary, the sub-index for employment rose to 48.6% in February, inching up by 0.5 percentage points month on month, while that for distributor delivery time increased by 0.7 percentage points month on month to 51.0%.

      Non-manufacturing index edges up

      China’s non-manufacturing commercial index, which includes sub-indexes for activity in the service and construction sectors, came in at 50.4% in February, edging up by 0.2 percentage points from January, the NBS data shows.

      The construction commercial activity index stood at 52.7% in the month, gaining 3.4 percentage points month on month, while the commercial activity index for services came in at 50.0%, slipping by 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, the NBS data shows.

       

      The commercial activity indexes for air transportation, postal services, broadcasting and television, satellite transmission services, monetary and financial services, and capital market services were above 55% in February, suggesting relatively high prosperity for these sectors, while the indexes for retail, accommodation and catering were below the critical point.
